"Pretty soon we'll have to fly naked!" The mass media rapidly embraced the UK terror storyline fed to them. The BBC, CNN, CBC Newsworld and other all-news broadcasters covered scarcely anything but the narrowly averted catastrophe throughout the day. Funny thing, but the general public wasn't buying it. Finally A Trend I Like- Gas Prices Fall For 8th Straight Day

Nationwide, Alaska and Hawaii remained the two states with gas prices still tracking above $4 a gallon. The cheapest gas was now found in New Jersey, where prices averaged $3.431 a gallon. Gas has fallen about 46 cents from the record high average of $4.114 that AAA reported on July 17, but they are still 83 cents above this time last year.

Marnie Webb and Linda Corso with U of G's food Safety Network have been featured in the national media over the past week discussing the recent Maple Leaf Foods Inc. meat recall and giving advice to consumers. Corso appeared on CBC's Newsworld and also answered questions online for Globe and Mail readers. The questions and answers were published in Thursday's newspaper. Results are based on Sept. 4-6 interviewing, and include two full days of polling after the conclusion of the Republican Convention. McCain has out-polled Obama on both Fri and Sat, and is receiving a convention bounce stronger than that of Obama's. On Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released its numbers for employment within the United States for the month of August. Most of the news was grim. There was, however, one bright spot in the memo. Job growth in the healthcare industry was robust, with approximately 27,000 new jobs added in August 2008.
